Hortus Pecuniae
Installation / Living Environment, Kunstturm Mücke
2021–2022
Dust carries unseen stories and traces of the places it comes from—both symbolic and literal cultural values often come laden with hidden toxicity. In the long-term research project Hortus Pecuniae, plants grow within an installation, slowly absorbing metals and pollutants from dust collected in museums and cultural spaces. Using „phyto-mining,“ a technique initially developed to remediate contaminated soils, the work symbolizes the possibility of naturally extracting harmful residues from cultural institutions and reimagining their meaning.
In Hortus Pecuniae, Line Krom explores the synergy between humans and plants, advocating for a mindful approach to managing contaminated resources. The installation serves as a bridge, drawing attention to the unseen ecological burdens of cultural heritage and emphasizing the transformative potential of plants as partners in a regenerative future.
